BSSAC Returns for 2023

After a special Barbados Secondary Schools Athletic Championship (BSSAC) meet in 2022, the games have returned to the usual all-inclusion event that is seen by all public secondary schools. At the official launch at the end of January 2023, organizers promised patrons a great event. It was expected that the original format of the sports would come alive at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex, starting with zonal meets, then culminating in the finals in March.

During the press launch in the Media Resource room at Harrison College, organizers announced that BSSAC and title sponsors Dasani/Powerade had entered into a new agreement. This year’s schedule consists of three zones instead of two with each participating school having a cap of 80 registered athletes to compete. A new event is also expected: the throws championship event.

During her remarks, BSSAC Co-Chair, Juanita Wade said that the organising committee was grateful for the continued support of their title sponsors Dasani/Powerade and the many other key stakeholders who help to make the premier secondary school track and field championships a success.

BSSAC commences with the throws championship competition from Monday, March 13th to Wednesday, March 15th, followed by the below three zones:

  • The Shane Brathwaite Zone                                                                                                                          Thursday, March 23rd to Friday, March 24th
  • The Frank Blackman Zone:                                                                                                                                      Thursday, March 16th to Friday, March 17th
  • The Esther Maynard Zone:                                                                                                                                    Tuesday, March 21st to Wednesday, March 22nd.

The finals will be held from Wednesday, March 29th to Friday, March 31st, at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex.
